We've made it to a total of 7 countries and only scratched the surface of each one of them (except Thailand). Siem Reap, Camboida is home to one of the 7 Wonders of the World...Angkor Wat! Only being a 35 min flight away, we thought we should check it out! Only having a weekend to explore these wonders was going to be rushed, but we did it! We arrived late Friday evening and checked into our hotel to notice instantly that Camboida has an extremely strange way of living. An extremely rich government with an extremely poor population. It was instantly sad to see all the poverty and begging going on. Early Saturday, we planned on hitting the temples early and getting them all in on one day...around 11 o'clock we had enough...we needed a break! There was so much to see and the heat had us soaked with sweat by 8 o'clock that morning! We ended up seeing about 7 out of the hundreds, but the most popluar ones were checked off! Next we headed out to see the largest lake in all of Asia; Tonle Sap Lake. There we saw many floating villages and fish farms. It was amazing and depressing for us to see the way these people live out there. At sunset, we hiked up to the top of a moutain to see the sunset at one of the Phnom Bakahn temple. Hundreds of people filled the walls and stairs of this temple to watch the sunset over the Tonle Sap Lake. Super tired from the long day we got ourselves geared up to see the city life of Khmer people. You can see the need Camboida has everywhere you go. The beggers, the workers, you can smell the need. It was an good way for us to see all that we have and are so blessed with.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334464448918776770" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; Just north of Thailand, we had to check it out! <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Annet</span>, <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinoXCmwlcSMxUthnSKXMVW1ns_VnBCoGUPWAMU2AwIQK8-6gwlSkVytiVYBmETLQgZPLKcblAgrRhyphenhyphenM_-udcaZz2cHrSbIQbOVPSu_lt4NVqgoL0SxbiwkfSHTSnA2hIL-6lIi/s1600-h/Laos+024.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333237600060233762" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 241px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinoXCmwlcSMxUthnSKXMVW1ns_VnBCoGUPWAMU2AwIQK8-6gwlSkVytiVYBmETLQgZPLKcblAgrRhyphenhyphenM_-udcaZz2cHrSbIQbOVPSu_lt4NVqgoL0SxbiwkfSHTSnA2hIL-6lIi/s320/Laos+024.jpg" border="0" /></a>Terra, Daniel and I loaded the over night train, 13 hours, to the border. <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Unfortunately</span>, we weren't quick enough to get a sleeper train, so we <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">slept</span> sitting up (it’s amazing the kind of sleeping pill they sell in Thailand). Once we arrived to the border, we had the very long process of border crossing. Not only do you meet the most interesting people from around the world, but you just have this weird feeling that something bad is going to happen and you play every scenario in your head about what possibly could be wrong with you or your passport. Still extremely tired from the night of sitting-up we arrived to the capital city of <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Vientiane</span>. It is known as the most laid back capital city in the world. And….it is! There really <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">isn</span>’t much going on there, but I think that’s what makes it so great! We instantly rented bikes for about a dollar a day for two days so that we could have some transportation. Once we got a hotel and started to experience what’s so great about Laos…..their food! Since Laos was occupied by the French, they have some of the best cafes, bakeries, <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3QG1sulUWbNzz7O9XlgzsEHMikXpcmRRO_Fs9TtHG5S8LUFH-T8CBJUETJYwMO0wZzEt_SCCqLO-ExTv21ZIuG1lqJ0OVW4fhLoIP76b3H5BBO-C94ZK2ODcUcMm5isfFfcGx/s1600-h/Laos+074.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333236549941785650" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 177px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3QG1sulUWbNzz7O9XlgzsEHMikXpcmRRO_Fs9TtHG5S8LUFH-T8CBJUETJYwMO0wZzEt_SCCqLO-ExTv21ZIuG1lqJ0OVW4fhLoIP76b3H5BBO-C94ZK2ODcUcMm5isfFfcGx/s320/Laos+074.jpg" border="0" /></a>and restaurants. The bikes also took us to get wonderful massages, to eat and to visit some temples (it <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9">wouldn</span>’t be a trip in Southeast Asia if you <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_10">didn</span>’t see a few). It was about 25 Km away so we knew it would take awhile especially since our bikes <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_11">weren't </span>built for long distances. The baskets on the front, the high handle bars, and the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_12">unajustable</span> seats…but we needed to work off those baked goods! So, we headed out. The first hour <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_13">wasn</span>’t bad. We were riding though rice fields, small towns and had lots of people yelling and honking at us along the way. The remaining 4 km felt the farthest. Once we arrived to Buddha Park, we were so sweaty and happy to be off the bikes! Buddha Park was pretty much like it sounds. It was a very small park with tons of <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_14">Buddha</span>-<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_15">esque</span> sculptures. All of them representing some sort of …..I don’t know! We were all dreading the fact that we had 25 Km to ride back! Trying to think of a way to avoid it, we saw a random Laotian get into his truck. SO, we ran over to him and somehow convinced him to take us and our bikes back (we got over 1/2 of the way back, the rest was doable). Of course, he thought we were completely crazy and had no clue what we were saying, but I think our hand motions helped! After that adventure, we all deserved an afternoon of hanging out in cafes and relaxing. We soaked up the last of Laos and started back on our border process again. When we got to the train station, we were very excited that we had a sleeper train for our overnight ride. In our opinion, Railay is one of the most beautiful areas of Thailand because if it’s white sand, rock formations, and clear blue water. Although, Chiang Mai’s is so enjoyable because of the relaxed atmosphere and beautiful countryside. We’ve enjoyed our selves every time we’ve gone either places, and knowing this was going to possibly be our last visit to both places, we tried to enjoy them as much as possible. We were excited to show Brian, David and Terra around to all our favorite places like waterfalls, elephant camps, villages, restaurants, and markets. The boys did a lot of climbing while Terra and I tried to lay by the pool and beach as much as possible. David McNeill and Brian Rouch came to visit us for our Songkran week off. We (Terra, Daniel and I) wanted to show them all around Thailand including the glorious Northern tip of Thailand where Laos, Burma, and Thailand meet; The Golden Triangle. So, the trip was planned and since the guys wanted it to be an “epic” adventure, they decided that making the 300 mile (round trip) venture on mopeds would be fun…it was for the first hour! <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327428548630282674" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwvXp64Pt8FjtHcJlM8tgZPDiNPOLXGExcqGYyI3bfC8uk-CjuhvZLZrGM3Tae-m8K5X-QEPyQxZLmHAgtYYYM9V8QBJqmAAn6ne8j6TVvTxDKG2zC6X1asq2o-R6CdDUfMGof/s320/DSCN8081.JPG" border="0" />Day one: we rented our mopeds, packed up our backpacks, strapped on our lovely helmets and hit the road. Stopping several times along the road to look at the map, we found our way up through hills, small towns, villages, and windy roads to the town of Chiang Saen. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327428543479362338" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggiVliQRPZ9zYyzZ5EkAFfiy7bjxg6yTNnNRP00k2BRcaef8O_QVwgSK_8uC3SfSczMb-blPLfZ3oq6wthSENZOqak8cpAkt5xB_yQLHjXmYD0EKE4I06lS_LEW9m0Wy-NunjJ/s320/DSCN8043.JPG" border="0" /> Here is where we all had great hopes of seeing this triangle-esque area with us being able to stand in all three countries at once…NOT! Instead it was a very sleepy town (except for the few that were out splashing everyone with water, celebrating Songkran) with the Mekong River flowing through. After asking locals where the actual point where the three countries come together, we found out (through translation) that it’s in the middle of the river and there really isn’t an exact location. Everyone would kind-of just point in one direction and say, “It’s over there” and excuse it. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327430338198883122" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiz4rjJxPqBrzqUpXA-1XY83ayO52CN00GOWugCZls7iYY3yaI-7OqTlBGrLXiAKVNj96HM2qPITanl-XdAKG2fW_6VHlWljZGO3q7eAwCgka0C3yOQ9Lit-FWrEB4VwWgG_or6/s320/DSCN8145.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327428555177625586" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFpquPGKkysTxna2x9aAoazIxD8wgmqxQvSu6gN49oHPjw_1ZAoMup4s3wozKDoBCFy2WLhEK0SgtdvDSGjxtRhC6JdPpaNPUOxPVxWHGrXvSFL5hGALFaApd7oS1OXmfHcusu/s320/DSCN8143.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327428550639538210" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx5yVvgfdFZAlwNV2yWrHXRnSseJVm7vXC1MG4rug2sN71yPHyeGW29ixaodUoKQP9rWhnjEP0hBjdzYsjzSomdDOYWcuEOgh4x2Qx23psp9LjQYbEnVEbmGQ-K_piV-q55t85/s320/DSCN8092.JPG" border="0" />Disappointed, we got some food and found some cozy bungalows for the night since we weren’t heading back until the next morning. Day two: we were done with the not so “Golden Triangle”, and loaded up the HOGS to head home. All was going well until Daniel and I took a spill going through a small town looking for somewhere to eat lunch. Road rash and a pretty bruised up knee was all I got, but the shaking nerves where the worst! The rest of the trip home was slower as the temps got hotter and hotter. All the locals were still out celebrating Songkran and water continued to get poured on us! Was it “epic”? That only depends upon one’s opinion of what “epic” means. Needless to say, I don’t know when Daniel and I will be on a moped again and I don’t think the “Golden Triangle” is a must see in Thailand! <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327430333860866258" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtGvCrLYVNmQga06zhBBOCy0ZFfHNaDM_ue1EmOo7zmRaQgXayrtJUdfIVQn34mq53ZppSkF9OeVnVODR31n9ZeW2W4WxywBpSXfS7pUXVVhDUlitdWDi9Fuq8351Ixnw5ffy3/s320/DSCN8201_1.JPG" border="0" />Daniel and Bekah Moorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07316244218961516915noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19406445.post-10868117074155996242009-04-22T00:41:00.000-07:002009-04-22T00:57:07.282-07:00Songkraned<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327420993541901554" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4k4SbGwx3pL15-r-hPz_NOwoN7pNBQ7lIXeN6K_AoGkqXPHTrd4mIOiGBeDOmuvZfvjKNcu52MMu0WDZIw7UnR3aXtoZ0hwFumAtYV_OMUS_MTpyJTjL42chIAXYw0a6sgGBb/s320/DSCN8217.JPG" border="0" /><strong>Songkran</strong> is a Thai traditional New Year which starts on April 13 every year and lasts for 3 days. Songkran is a Thai word which means "move" or "change place" as it is the day when the sun changes its position in the zodiac. It is also known as the <strong>"Water Festival"</strong> as people believe that water will wash away bad luck. Therefore, the entire three days are spent with your families, splashing water on one another. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327420985718197218" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZFwo3pGcESlqaRVEBgU2ekehReEl28cmSblouFFDlmlo-TC76gAeBwhWpKaKqihGAy0c8lRwqUK_Ad4xFZwM_HCACnbGwo44ACTU5w5HQ48mNFUDCXO5yKdEgV6dKuFnGqmyJ/s320/DSCN8183.JPG" border="0" />We spent these three days up in Chiang Mai with David, Brian & Terra where a lot of water throwing was happening! Since the temps were high, it was nice getting splashed every once in a while, but after a few soakings it got old. After day 3, it was irritating! Locals lined the street with water guns, buckets and hoses. Most of the water used was luke warm but some people liked to ice their water and others liked to get theirs from local canals and rivers...DIRTY! The worst of it was going 80KPH (50 MPH) on our rented mopeds and the water slapping you while the locals just laughed and laughed! I guess you have to be Thai to fully appreciate being "Songkraned"!<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327420993940428882" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEierwuJu-Xq8J7EPO3i_AWSaJVzCdNJ1WrZS1UJzKJe0SBLLkYpoxIxCCQ3lhdlQrTfpzxgLMgwsopmvcBJa14SAPfFKOkfsrDRD-hgAPYO4hctjsHesC-LWjdPkOyyVRbIcjv4/s320/DSCN8335.JPG" border="0" />Daniel and Bekah Moorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07316244218961516915noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19406445.post-26866309313242516112009-03-31T04:43:00.000-07:002009-03-31T06:01:17.041-07:00Survivor Island: Borneo, Malaysia<div align="center">25 teachers from our school flew to Kota Kinablu for an International Teachers' Convention, EARCOS, for 6 days. The temps are rising as we get into the ‘hot season’ of April and May. We’ve been extremely busy with tons of visitors, school events and living it up in Bangkok! February: We’ve had fun weekends around here getting to know our co-workers/friends better and on the week days imparting knowledge while juggling all of the extra-curricular activities <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSwJ5MfGWn0WlC8J0o85idHD6_3jVDIDsxHI2U4sTBSDYkhe6XcGLr_haQePuMZ9RGGy_UqeVFaXBIBqXQh_hgEirwkp_KJSdPdKuF6li2IZ1rrS81q24J5Xl7BiwfANIQfa88/s1600-h/Chiang+Mai+Kristi+&+Montana.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316277973697065810" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSwJ5MfGWn0WlC8J0o85idHD6_3jVDIDsxHI2U4sTBSDYkhe6XcGLr_haQePuMZ9RGGy_UqeVFaXBIBqXQh_hgEirwkp_KJSdPdKuF6li2IZ1rrS81q24J5Xl7BiwfANIQfa88/s320/Chiang+Mai+Kristi+%26+Montana.jpg" border="0" /></a>our school has going on weekly. March: Kristi and Montana flew over from Texas for a week. I went with them up to Chiang Mai as well has showing them all around Bangkok and Ko Saumi. They enjoyed cooking classes, shopping, elephant rides, temples, and an exciting taxi accident we all got into (no worries, we’re all fine). Daniel had some friends pop over for a quick weekend visit after being in India for 2 weeks. They went down south for a climbing and enjoyed the rocks and water. As we start our 4th and last quarter of school, we still have more to look forward to! We had the great pleasure of going and visiting the Ferrells in Singapore for a long weekend. We were very curious about seeing what an Asian, non- third world country was like. Our curiosity was pleasantly enlightened by how Singapore is so civilized, modern and beautifully clean. We had a great time hanging out with Annika, Keith, and their two adorable kids. We went swimming, mountain biking, running, exploring the large malls and Chinatown. We toured the island of Sentosa, enjoyed good food and seeing the melting pot of Asian cultures. We were shocked at the amount of English we heard on the streets and well as the clean and friendly atmosphere of the entire country. There were times we had to remind ourselves that we were still in Asia. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5301534646251954066" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; We were so happy to have Wendy visit us from the states, so we thought we'd try out a new island that was only a 5 hour bus ride and 20 min ferry trip away. Making our hotel arrangements online, you never really know what you're going to get. Luckily, when we got there our resort was fantastic and we knew it would be a great weekend! Wanting to soak up as much of the <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHTlHckv_rZF_ujBoijXCEIlO-AskeDIUrop5ErFBVvylSwKOzteaKLZGLyxPn2TRBSDKGoM6J9xn8Z-SkdGslj7gsaVayP2G23s_XM50NYYwOXAnNzNGHn-t3zdH8BQQt0BX8/s1600-h/Ko+Chang+006.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298941527487979058" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHTlHckv_rZF_ujBoijXCEIlO-AskeDIUrop5ErFBVvylSwKOzteaKLZGLyxPn2TRBSDKGoM6J9xn8Z-SkdGslj7gsaVayP2G23s_XM50NYYwOXAnNzNGHn-t3zdH8BQQt0BX8/s320/Ko+Chang+006.jpg" border="0" /></a>resort's beauty and amenities, we spent our mornings lazing around. Our three days there were full of laying on the beach, kayaking, eating, and travling around on rented mopeds. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhEM88t0d0nPsRf-Mnmh8D0WyzLVuF773r0U6SuDmYskhousjyyU4NWrfPD1k2zS6Pdwsfyc12FmrEYVCq2mtafSeEAc0UnUs0TqKDrHr2zvUkEiOLinYbq6RqgC0PDRQjzTx0/s1600-h/Ko+Chang+012.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298941532212492946" style="FLOAT: right; Marching, the lovely colored t-shirts, class-A uniforms, honor patches, ‘Oh we are the Pathfinder strong…’ then you know what I’m talking about. As for you non-SDAs, Pathfinders is a community service oriented youth organization of our church. A.K.A….boy scouts!<br />Well, here at EIS, all students, grades 3-8, are required to take Pathfinders as a class. Once a week, my 7th graders dress up in their uniforms: pants, socks (with logo), black shoes, sash (with logo), belt (with logo), dress shirt (with logo and lots of pockets), and practice their drills, marches, pledges and various other activities to help move them up into the next ‘class’; Eagar Beaver, Busy Bees, Adventurers…<br />Anyway, I had the pleasure of attending this year’s 7th grade Pathfinder Campout. One thing different about this ‘Campout’ was the fact that we stayed at a really nice resort in the eastern part of Thailand. The resort had tons of activities for the kids to do and use to earn their honor patches. I was in charge of the biking honor, which was a treat for sure! These kids grew up in the city, so for a lot of them, this was one of their first exposures to hills, dirt roads, and physical activity. I quickly learned that their hyperactivity level only lasted half-way up a hill and about 5 minutes into a ride. Other than bike riding, they got to run through a challenge course, climb an artificial rock, kayak, swim, hike to a near by waterfall, explore a cave and play lots of campfire games.<br />All in all, it was a great time. I mean, what beats inspecting girls rooms, making sure they’re all in bed and not sneaking around late into the night/morning, traveling on a bus with 115 hormonal 12-13 year olds, all while wearing a Pathfinder uniform?! TIT…This is Thailand!<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298858128592712978" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivh-31YqErHSzrpYFizQFVo8qeTAuyEhbeewDqHZKzzQoaM_FEVGSBK0neuBBAgf0qT1WoBTSJa3HLJ8gNMKO8G6HspRL2pitOTJH7LGB0zCGgCWgUkYQbBlynSDyExB2s62UX/s320/Ko+Chang+060.jpg" border="0" /></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298858133825972498" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW7W0r8q6Ltff_1ttjQ59u7d4GpxK4lzhgzErylRT7lqpGN1kACZX1erZ6pZebdebD1pFHO3W8SljdJEkUi_wC5fsXZ3UJo7rks2LvXuq0vRGH-fmnC1kfeBrYmHIfsatzqwcz/s320/Ko+Chang+067.jpg" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298858135893399778" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmcWX3yN24htMaJuX88EAHGs2Tx3zgir_7GqbQlo0V8063Xff-Bx5PtMuI5bmUnxg5OvY2FVljj_NxNGCOOf4kUWOix0Z4AWcY0UZgEwD3kiWBUnG68r3-pBFohNm8TboE0y-s/s320/Ko+Chang+069.jpg" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298858139071681602" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHau2tG0lzVlEDueDKOCjxvfg0CiLqX7ad_Tj7S7zLn1fDdUU65OZMaVqR7ZmHcTd3_PCUEh7w_Mc4tbNW9nr0uP2pd80uXld83IeTdMw_q7H8GvJCj6xiVPCSO4kg9KByxFs0/s320/Ko+Chang+071.jpg" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298858128563949474" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzeTfloBF_X_ajhO9yWKV3mDJrv_YXFK9GANKpqNmVJLdZmxVlQ5IRmjViJBGvoscm4Slk2_E95IvZ5h_Z8t9u5m_IcZR9j8OLh5LIAQ2qe8R-On67r9VgC-VK-Oww4EZbV5wM/s320/Ko+Chang+055.jpg" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298858794383542578" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRc0jG6mv7TcuDjzccUEczBJoSiNlfNvIfbhjgCA-0a7JfNIGfRetnEVLYI8m7UCoDVwqnhc_JC_S8ny-0BoqzjM5sAFRGd0tCA6fkwhiPqBqWNn0EpCYUJM7m3mpd_jNzWt4L/s320/Ko+Chang+079.jpg" border="0" /> Daniel and Bekah Moorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07316244218961516915noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19406445.post-69747324006245719072009-02-03T19:27:00.000-08:002009-02-04T05:35:53.125-08:00Floating Market<div>We had the pleasure of traveling around Thailand for about 10 days this month with Wendy, our dear friend from the states. One of the many places we took her was the ever-so-famous Floating Market. Everything floats in Bangkok, considering this city is built on a swamp. However, the floating markets are especially interesting. The klongs, narrow-water-ways, wind through the city and are full of wooden long-tail boats and locals selling fruits, vegetables, spices, trinkets and various Thai products. As we floated down the klong that Saturday morning, we requested several times that our boat driver stop and let us purchase multiple kinds of fruits and tasty Thai treats (generally fried) as well as buying some souvenirs…at the cheapest price possible. Wendy’s goal was to try to find something with “Made in the U.S.A” written on it, but couldn’t. But, when <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYlxHsdZA9-9x5FgrqUhb8t3tWw4Z_vcFJ3oZwifFucf929JIkHIlPD-iFGtznjZG0CjYht7WiIrbbGPG5mpaFaMyPg30VVA-l05Q0bwIIIMOe8GSGF1DweD0uoce0WoXNm8bA/s1600-h/China+025.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291530780553071154" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYlxHsdZA9-9x5FgrqUhb8t3tWw4Z_vcFJ3oZwifFucf929JIkHIlPD-iFGtznjZG0CjYht7WiIrbbGPG5mpaFaMyPg30VVA-l05Q0bwIIIMOe8GSGF1DweD0uoce0WoXNm8bA/s320/China+025.jpg" border="0" /></a>we signed up to do a 5 day tour of Beijing with two other friends, Annet & Geneva, we knew we would need it all. We arrived there mid day Wednesday and the temps were 1* C (33.8*F) and since we had become acclimatized to Thailand’s weather it hit us hard. Since we were on a tour, we got to travel like most Asian people do…in a large tour bus! Yes, we stuck out and had no clue what our tour guide said to us the entire 5 days. But, we<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXMmU0t6j_oDgYqY6YtZQwBHIyhYX9Q77gaWFaM6pQr2OfmrkM9pROJAIDv1Y2yN91oYtdH2E20wrUx94VSFiybcIFRKIZMgcub-ODODN8BNB96cYI4nkXPS02V6sPXxhQM6xa/s1600-h/China+030.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291530895170682514" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXMmU0t6j_oDgYqY6YtZQwBHIyhYX9Q77gaWFaM6pQr2OfmrkM9pROJAIDv1Y2yN91oYtdH2E20wrUx94VSFiybcIFRKIZMgcub-ODODN8BNB96cYI4nkXPS02V6sPXxhQM6xa/s320/China+030.jpg" border="0" /></a> knew where to find him since we was carrying the Thai flag. We never really got to know the other people on our tour, but they would smile at us, try to tell us what was in our food, and referred to Daniel as Jim Carry. We got to see all the major touristy things; The Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City, The Temple of Heaven, The Bird's Nest, and of course The Great Wall of China. Most places looked the same with the Chinese architecture and symbolic features like; Buddha, pagodas, prayer wheels, dragon/horse sculptures, and everything painted red. The Bird's Nest/ Olympic Stadium <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicP216KEYJWqc5FDX7i8VuQcfs3oyXhEotHXaGh-TLjSV21AiTPpl6Va0dxAthbBZFaL0IqcWH_Pw8G1p4zFiC8cVs_myYjH0grz0GtA696xQRX1Th7Bb0ikGA4ONECGChb7Te/s1600-h/China+105.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291531512264431138" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicP216KEYJWqc5FDX7i8VuQcfs3oyXhEotHXaGh-TLjSV21AiTPpl6Va0dxAthbBZFaL0IqcWH_Pw8G1p4zFiC8cVs_myYjH0grz0GtA696xQRX1Th7Bb0ikGA4ONECGChb7Te/s320/China+105.jpg" border="0" /></a>was a fun place to visit and see where all the 2008 Olympic events took place. A highlight of our trip was going to the ever so Great Wall of China. We got to spend 2 hours hiking up the thousands of steps and looking across miles of wall-lined hills. Daniel was excited about putting on his rock climbing shoes and actually (and probably illegally) “climb” parts of The Great Wall. Again, since we were on a tour, we had the ever so annoying pleasure of going to all the mandatory tour bus stops like; the tea factory, Chinese medicine factory, the jade and pearl factory as well as many other places that try to get tourist to buy their product. Fortunately, since they could tell we didn’t speak their language, we were ignored most places. Aside from the daily meals of white rice and our choice of chicken, pork, or duck, we had a great trip and really enjoyed seeing another side of Asia. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFp83U4IkONOtPvdTi9W-kZfqqw8bPoSw4XxXcNx2xXVHbQTGVhIClnp8my6Lap4GoCl6gpTDpXRr0dxCddsF8XTZo2M4_9PnLNbmLLWhNXkplZaKEd72GFFIw_UKpI-nWM0mZ/s1600-h/China+082.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291531048848675394" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFp83U4IkONOtPvdTi9W-kZfqqw8bPoSw4XxXcNx2xXVHbQTGVhIClnp8my6Lap4GoCl6gpTDpXRr0dxCddsF8XTZo2M4_9PnLNbmLLWhNXkplZaKEd72GFFIw_UKpI-nWM0mZ/s320/China+082.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX6y2s4tUS62K2mUF24D_vkzL0earX5fhW9v7W6_tUYmRTidnbB1fg88Gcf__Xh2dqW-6JcDRd0LPMUDsUZjMi6rwm5ALSog_JAsjDDDEguZHJGAlFvIjYCqG_FuNIYN2qVTZe/s1600-h/China+089.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291531249017447954" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX6y2s4tUS62K2mUF24D_vkzL0earX5fhW9v7W6_tUYmRTidnbB1fg88Gcf__Xh2dqW-6JcDRd0LPMUDsUZjMi6rwm5ALSog_JAsjDDDEguZHJGAlFvIjYCqG_FuNIYN2qVTZe/s320/China+089.jpg" border="0" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy4fAduqiFQ9gH9NNWxPPpjT05ju5bVBRICBO8f33Xh26is20fNFHLzHXx2lylFoEsNQ9uUHGPo7UhhxvnyAMxamBI60V3xioFy36QldsG8dNcWjLUxPbaVlARv4VHdUbMTvJm/s1600-h/China+093.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291531398728800258" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy4fAduqiFQ9gH9NNWxPPpjT05ju5bVBRICBO8f33Xh26is20fNFHLzHXx2lylFoEsNQ9uUHGPo7UhhxvnyAMxamBI60V3xioFy36QldsG8dNcWjLUxPbaVlARv4VHdUbMTvJm/s320/China+093.jpg" border="0" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbQEBTlMg8xiq4ut4-AC61E9LXk44Q3xxWpJC_KbTIl7x1UVUFFDJv2RnNLqmR4VJuTJ5bHvR0kRJBAemuMghStr_JYX6vIqKd0L_hJRH4F_GqBaQzoyhUc3Ab3eYT2C6oQbKS/s1600-h/China+084.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291531705958984498" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbQEBTlMg8xiq4ut4-AC61E9LXk44Q3xxWpJC_KbTIl7x1UVUFFDJv2RnNLqmR4VJuTJ5bHvR0kRJBAemuMghStr_JYX6vIqKd0L_hJRH4F_GqBaQzoyhUc3Ab3eYT2C6oQbKS/s320/China+084.jpg" border="0" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoOjpSqTOo5dTW-DZbeSmIvt9axWs2S_jozkBcGjR_3IaXK1YV4oX1RkE84bJUf7TubJ8VgXDwZzgeaP5G78tsejFCK1H6FxH_IhUTWD4clUOwFcIZ-pcJy7ojA8AZangLGM6o/s1600-h/China+077.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291531828198436802" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoOjpSqTOo5dTW-DZbeSmIvt9axWs2S_jozkBcGjR_3IaXK1YV4oX1RkE84bJUf7TubJ8VgXDwZzgeaP5G78tsejFCK1H6FxH_IhUTWD4clUOwFcIZ-pcJy7ojA8AZangLGM6o/s320/China+077.jpg" border="0" /></a>Daniel and Bekah Moorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07316244218961516915noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19406445.post-72692233750328556442009-01-04T05:23:00.000-08:002009-01-04T07:11:16.423-08:00An Asian Christmas<div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287449061923438226" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWZDN0F4PEHDpIE0Py3PFDn2RcMWFY4en5mft8ADsDEYEyyJZ5yCazloyMKyb1cx3zlX_Mlxk7mZ8cVRiaDtaNcyFu5LVA2ZIIAWr_vQS9heALcZE5T3jcb0KMxD3GkX1RKtwO/s200/PC200001.JPG" border="0" />Just another 2008 highlight was having mom and dad Evans come visit us in Thailand. We got to show them all around so that they could have a good idea of what our daily lives are like, take them to our favorite places and have them experience what things are like on this side of the world. I (Bekah) was counting down the days and we spent hours planning everything for the two most energetic 53 year olds we know. We started our 15 day Asian Christmas with 2 days in <strong>Bangkok</strong>; two days to get them oriented. They got to meet people we work with, see our school, go to our local restaurants, markets, and sleep in our really hard bed. To really give them a good idea of what BKK is like, we went on an 8 hour bike tour. </div><br /><p align="right"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287447854569493650" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU3vr_6oRbMpHDYR-aF6u_LdY0CdKJtu4KA3paFuA7fPEMSroOVcsmJbSlVN_0-G0kIWiR1atIp7ZsF5m184tK11tgzZ9LnfLht1O63tswpV5pRe2VltbR1jtmX9ud-r-4vJqx/s200/IMG_3489.JPG" border="0" /></p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287447843307377906" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7YJ7cRjK-59Q3aFBjU5ti1p45z4Fk2NZfAkantVMfjF4jyMcmLEIKFs8FAJ7O1lRwcbBiEjvOK-BjYBq9861b5pnD9p4W-O0OigbN0ii5HviK_rHoiB3FIkRh40vZaYi-9qCy/s200/IMG_3449.JPG" border="0" />Throughout the tour we dodged major traffic, squeezed our way through narrow alley ways and neighborhoods, smelled the horrific foods from local markets, hesitantly tasted Thai treats made along the streets, and balanced our way down narrow pathways through jungled villages. It was definitely a highlight and a good way to give them a true Thai experience.<br /><br />Good Morning Vietnam!!! Vacation officially started for us when we flew to Vietnam. Living in Bangkok for the last 5.5 months, I really thought it had the most crowed street traffic until I visited <strong>Hanoi, Vietnam</strong>. With no traffic laws, signals, or rhyme or reason to the streets, everyone just goes for it no matter what’s in the way. The majority of them are on motorcycles or bicycles and everyone has the right of way as well as a horn. Horns were beeping non-stop. Crossing the street was definitely taking our life into our hands. During our time there we were amazed at the crowed streets and the way of life. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287449934285638114" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilwwaHfF-vnv5Pm-0QsV9l6T4XjhZt_l_jlnx5g1wlLW5DFTryBdL_R0PT2ttHCTQWXxVU2n1wFo9TrmiFcG_gIDoObnpGUOKywEqfM3a7chk51sgfY-Zuw1gjnZ1nIi8UDaXQ/s200/PC230108.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287449939218520770" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguZADxHvxR7-IKk_rhyphenhyphen0G3-36t9EzcqiezZSxtyxsIU_85aJnfV9hG4pEI4RCmKxkWq0ENQYbJoOPGQgXenigd0WcJPgN_bACeuFUoYxXTe3VAYdF9qZuO4IwWaEdpRUaBefir/s200/PC230113.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287449425020228178" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY2M-pI7hX230BxXLJISEZbKdr715VIJTxpUrbosrqtWP_4mPXj32KALvoIzaNDM1DfptgXPl6aGP2oGfVAqLlrKOlvx4PwNUbNo3sS8YZCw6WW6dtSNCq5qHsgiz5wmFWaMXE/s200/PC210030.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287449411549346130" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqN8S9w5TP1Z56-KBJdBwVgJA7YUyDde_nSANrhecm2DsuHzZYnRqtU3ztEVJdfsQJiPhE9i7UBLMZ_R5mvDIxUS7hggnNYfyA5yCxowPxkzcf_1b6mfUpwoB6E53bRQJB9KPy/s200/PC210026.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287447866025430274" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilDvVpQhE3GwW_laoMut8jZDn8JQBruYO5HuBAuNprwLMi9DceXAIXWJvZ8kzR7Nj-_Sx3bTpIIBkX07HtRS8ZmI_JNZsfhsnzzm7qVFW_789689tWv_B-QwENgqEaEsHugAZQ/s200/IMG_3542.JPG" border="0" />The markets were amazing and the smells are indescribable (not in a good way). In the words of mom, “I wish I could box up these smells just so people could know what it was like, it would show them more than a picture”. We visited The Hanoi Hilton (aka The War Prison), The Army Museum, and The Literature Temple. I felt a bit smarter after doing all that, but I’m glad it only took a half day to see them all. While in Vietnam, we took a 2 day cruise of Halong Bay. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287449426501643442" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0jtey1ARVcYTZ9yDS8K-7ECm9BNOw66kVVzJS7od8wAst8MksFCwAITjBjsK1FfOe4j5vU2RQzY5vKy8SYU4dEsFzDJWJXo8hqoIl7Hp8T43XWFB23QR8-etRh9ovjBOcrEVa/s200/PC220064.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287449471121203458" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0t7eikVsjVZhryQqwUH1jsDQgBoDv9jc8wd5goPRM0AzekZSDX60VwarpMoCRUSmD2pgWj2UIZFVZPZQ_gMPJdR3CMtxhuFHbpMRduVWeCAHCrbZLdef0goQV_J1sZhitsS54/s200/PC220078.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287455521721736674" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbl-7x5Jcy1d7kX3RkALZ02zguNcMHUYXGdWxdUol9N5n1q9dxApNnSA9Ji0TI6D1mhl6cETywXIMUfgzMAM6y3TTqtRxuTE2CrPbL20IdEmlT4-vjTWlm9frCD5br_jgdqZYL/s200/PC220084.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287447875011279778" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZypIQ1oPtvAukvZiNoUboFrmGK8qhcOeXunwVItpb2OkuwHzUJg8hDP8ireiYy81LmbFtUT5oa8LcpOKHb2LyJiVL4ubkspchH62EXO-Pm6V0wZoqg83qd3HzZkq9K9C4aZwo/s200/IMG_3633.JPG" border="0" />It’s about 3 hours out of Hanoi and it is well know for it’s beautiful bay and islands. I’m sure it was beautiful, at least the advertisements looked beautiful, but it was extremely overcast and the weather was so cool we barely made it out of the ship except to go into some caves and kayaking. We weren’t impressed with a lot of the food on the boat since most of it had antennas and eyeballs. But, we met some great people and enjoyed getting to know them. We got to know one couple, the Wile’s, so well that we made plans to meet up with them after the boat trip for Christmas dinner. We also hope to see them again when we are both are touring China next week.<br /><br />From Vietnam, we flew back into Thailand, up to <strong>Chiang Mai</strong>. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287447887447930626" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi43gEzIOr7v4uV3EhOcetB3rBTGcXZg44bJM0HwVgiWxKt-L-diBldVnpHbeWPj4ca2qNg0BtKgODW6DrbXvoXqUo6TmL52V13hwiWfsjbLmnC5IScOPhdyZFOvdtChGdeqF3o/s200/IMG_3728.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287449942688428322" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1jO_E3LBKnfMopnJx4lV_wrPKnqhRtJaUNr7ZZ9vON8N7dqO2v_fLuhqYc9mH0vWeWLS3z1-Dj_9VevTqYXJSh5I3cILYTfSqtEea-AdICaCXEeIdArlJG1ytFh2dC48itvTI/s200/PC250148.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287449949848426546" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEdb8qSJYiFuMLe5zWHBRZmJMrn6CxhMIs8Yoxl_D9Q6elIrF5ARxlIVJjOsoXL8ImoV8p7opcZe40hQVbnyCbJoBdB5dlAlCm3xpW19uRzgU2ZfHrTw4b_YIjvxQtg0Zb-udV/s200/PC250186.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287448415339828898" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghgnmRJOIX4oEgJwXpMBixU3Lv0_V15z6OEoftTDF5KjOv9JfxjE80xQlPO-otc7bJT6gTcdoGXwD_CZ5nYR1WhSO16DfdSijFC_4Ew0vQlRYmJz8pA3Pwsx17zWO10wCK9u9o/s200/IMG_3731.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287449957988363538" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh40vY_45pfF-fMO02eSYM6zbjnnKuHs9JS8JYA6PoB46eCzmqdSbm7P20cMBACKjEdjyfByTZv-Tuswo6ccMtdCjFGjnlRT5_O03F5R1bMVqkaimvqi7zOMZGspRfpeUEyBRJ/s200/PC260196.JPG" border="0" />Our flight had gotten canceled so we lost a day there, but made it up by going on an awesome trek. Terra, a teacher friend of ours, and her family were also visiting Chiang Mai at that time, so we trekked together which made it a lot of fun also. The trek started with getting on an elephant and heading off into the jungle. As we held on for dear life, our elephant named Leo, headed up and down some steep terrain. The light sprinkle of rain didn’t bother us as much as the fear of falling off. Daniel and I have been on a lot of elephants these past few months, but nothing like these guys! They were crazy! The Buddhist elephant guides kept it entertaining saying “Oh my Buddha” as Leo and all the other elephants would do anything to find something to eat. After that adventure, we hiked up to the base of a really cool waterfall where dad and Daniel were temped to take off their shirts and jump in. Impressing all that were watching, dad acted 31 again, and Daniel 13. The next event led us to a river where we loaded onto bamboo rafts. Dad and Daniel didn’t seem to mind that you had to sit on the bamboo, with large slits in them, where water soaked you from head to toe since they were already wet. Even though the water was only 3 feet deep, it still moved very quickly and since we were so wet, we couldn’t even feel the light rain that continued to fall on us all day. The craziness ended when we had a delicious meal at a small hill tribe village. We really enjoyed our short time in Chiang Mai and wished we could have stayed longer.<br /><br />Another flight took us down to the southern part of Thailand, the island of <strong>Phuket</strong>. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287448428727774130" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiin-WhONR8QYZPAQfhIjhFmvGRN-GI0hk6IvuQ42E-jzQgZILedcYOdKUOytRJlqWuCR_b33styf2TfiaAUZ9WUMZsFn3j9nEw6F-79d1NWDE_9Fp_FU4y3Pu3N6Z6toZdnynS/s200/IMG_3816.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287450357309890018" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTm9CkFMbkv1u9VUwy1Ql5krf4-d8Dajmr67CsasfeDByluS4d0PJzYa6Qd6MeCqLb3cMQn8N0mj5EjVIAL3i5JGI2m4v7GEKGkiElv34DKrrqVg6E1XK2holOOZ1XmrCewZaX/s200/PC290262.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287450350049729474" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHGAbKzuIo7cu19uNObS2VK2LE3SCxFgH9xPaIjowvnkT9k7q90iBM_roNW8HsgTyg6Oeyyl6QHnbxMLNNmjjO8aSYiTrqUL_qCUQ0agKWIiPKGvgxSAdw1ot47augFcxJLqA1/s200/PC270233.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287450343747246930" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8Yxi7bPMhmRPN1hUPuKKQxqOf2G8-MxmAVTfCl4zqSbaVeWeyF_t6S1nKKM0e2N7SEmqevzCJELjFdxjxbX_hk34gIEeFK3sPAUnGEVWhblStdx2__A-Tlia8pGgH47gMAq4L/s200/PC270221.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287450358332344738" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpQjp1y1eu2KIvEeiHiXWzq8UKjkea5MWISOduwiBxJnFHpOZvU3VcC64uPTDkMZLAzLtELinPhyphenhyphenaiouc9Ts8T7T-1ULh5TAoCPAjFmdugZE5vXi6jI3FGgNYRyVI397M3uBgM/s200/PC300271.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287450332187145122" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeH-JSrd-PEFayHuODQ0DaFo6vw6aHfDstKn5TrvTQww_Q9PrYdsEzk_8LYFx7B6LDOcWl9beRjceV9z62UI0fjm4tvy7Q6EnN9hC2O9TQqEGu6t-QFjtSa6vG2KMrwKBWfd_S/s200/PC270201.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287448421962571762" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-EPwwZaGwcTKcTuqUyyDhlSWn16HCBJ1Il0tvXjQm8lYQGtWMSUumQ_NGioeOc-mxNE8dT5v1AoFuF3in6CvmNB4abgwYH4ZNcEK3gDydaFPXfYErmrZNHSQfseBSwePN9kjT/s200/IMG_3777.JPG" border="0" />A tourist trap, we stayed at one of the most populated beaches on the island, Patong Beach. It was hopping with tourist, restaurants, shops, and knock offs. The guys instantly wanted to rent mopeds and find the <em>lay of the land</em>. So, that’s what we did! Mom and my butts were extremely sore as we held on and toured the southern and northern parts of the island. We saw some beautiful viewpoints with white sandy beaches and turquoise water. We found a zoo where dad could get up close and personal with snakes, monkeys and tigers as well as going up to the top of a hill to see the biggest Buddha in Thailand. He sits 45 meters high (about 150 feet) and can be seen from almost all areas of the island. One day, we took a boat out to some surrounding islands and snorkeled around the warm water and blazing sun. We ate some good food and laughs trying to bargain with salesmen and trying to stay on the correct side of the road (left side).<br /><br />New Years Eve brought us back to <strong>Bangkok</strong> and took us downtown with 5 million other people to watch a beautiful fireworks show. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287448442045957458" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK54Nyx8VuFQSKV9kBaFED8tO1VQ4HNrIkSy936BHqeDfcftN_irQwzy2KGLi7fJE_1uxhhFfoVx6x-nujErzR0bpPPL0l72KOnoD5dilYISR2NEx9sflBUEX9nV6jnvr_oS8v/s200/IMG_3885.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287448454305508642" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhANt1kri6Fpw94Np6Aga7lU9er9lol1I4_jrg69XBREfDKFGOEUJcEZnqVqTG03h4puj7eKic0RobTasPD1WfQFMfOKW1nD6jp5WpziAebed2H7fPwXa1E_DQo4XlDKf_RxYC5/s200/IMG_3905.JPG" border="0" />With two days left of mom and dads visit, we tried to get in some other famous sights of the area; temples, palaces, malls, and markets. <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287449038165262978" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1qX6H3k3EL1NMUe8K7Jn_i7h_R-kBASwwX0bw_2r7QweXDr1XUcov3sj9vH-H347t_f-IKozw3EeV8HSG_AjHFxWe9P1gpADW8HNoVPB9biyDwI2fQPyZVexNQiq7hNZBYvZn/s200/IMG_3929.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287449031600006626" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_kkIZZDOpAyG5mWrX3d-EUgC8Sl0rTWa6lv42zQyZJ2Mp31OakqwrCwswDgDJGzG-Q2BmXokZhgKKl0kKD6Xpl1ktY411vZsdxKqA9H8K6A_I3SM4QNlEj5gKr7qJi4hnIufN/s200/IMG_3908.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287449044760319714" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0zIt2dQsg-cfjukDgWg1Hf1XGOmk_raDqNGdidXu8ZNn4-fjEDvJ7YeOwUYifLk-pQso7Bp-FpmIENkgvbFQore8xbQSZqKqdI2lm7JotLa9AsqPQ_mh8DSPjkUTxzMJhg58V/s200/IMG_3971.JPG" border="0" />Some of favorite high lights were massages and going to the movies. In most theaters around here, you can be VIP and sit in lean-back chairs, have pillows and blankets and people bring you cookies, popcorn and anything you want to drink. Everyone, except the hundreds that ran the 10.5K in his honor. All dressed in yellow, the color of the King, we carried flags, lit candles and paid respect to His Majesty while running. A group of about 12 teachers and staff from our school joined in on the fun. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbYUOvC-QYwEoNo-_eVer-DZilD6uE43u5HXP4uQ0KeQI2hFhcyOgr4BqfXv9mES50-C8up5o7Dd89Gq9h6AA3AsppU2vLZiDTBQInzUDJBBYzxQwbcaTyN1F37fxrfEpFcqfo/s1600-h/Run+for+the+King029.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5277415940287529938" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbYUOvC-QYwEoNo-_eVer-DZilD6uE43u5HXP4uQ0KeQI2hFhcyOgr4BqfXv9mES50-C8up5o7Dd89Gq9h6AA3AsppU2vLZiDTBQInzUDJBBYzxQwbcaTyN1F37fxrfEpFcqfo/s320/Run+for+the+King029.jpg" border="0" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5M1SNPyKbl5m-nI763-lt-kYlvy9LiXhN5StZb_ArqZuSwbEJ8dlqKn6AzWFlvAaBpfEmTzWoBARlNPsvDoYylOU6B1RGhaInmCQL7taNZWn3sfrBKEZhuOnIPlJVPbNakjqo/s1600-h/Run+for+the+King+051.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5277416792249417666" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5M1SNPyKbl5m-nI763-lt-kYlvy9LiXhN5StZb_ArqZuSwbEJ8dlqKn6AzWFlvAaBpfEmTzWoBARlNPsvDoYylOU6B1RGhaInmCQL7taNZWn3sfrBKEZhuOnIPlJVPbNakjqo/s320/Run+for+the+King+051.jpg" border="0" /></a></div>Daniel and Bekah Moorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07316244218961516915noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19406445.post-4474403534682658082008-11-25T04:36:00.000-08:002008-11-25T07:24:21.113-08:00Corry & Cheris' Visit - KrabiOur first visitors from the states, Corry and Cheris Current! We were so exicted to see them and show them around Thailand. We took a couple days off work and headed with them down to southern Thailand, Krabi, to stay on a few islands, eat good food, relax, and have some fun! Daniel and I headed out to experience a lot of mud and miles! We had a blast! <div>The morning started at 4:30 with coffee from Ronald and a bus trip about an hour outside of Bangkok. The sun started to come out as did hundreds of other competitors. Not knowing the distances or any information about the course, we didn't know what to expect. (I guess that's part of the <em>adventure</em>) We got our bib #'s and jerseys on and listened to race instructions. As the gun we<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1a1FjF7nE5X3RAc8fhdRoCfjxX08YHNRyWiiNwNqG4EWVJC6dtufu34riNPR9tBTLeUgzpi_8lvAHln_3rwqBEHvkWWsXlCS189_jSLYilT53EWGGivsOB-CcQKUHQZWrmLbv/s1600-h/Thailand+005.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5272561314904904482" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1a1FjF7nE5X3RAc8fhdRoCfjxX08YHNRyWiiNwNqG4EWVJC6dtufu34riNPR9tBTLeUgzpi_8lvAHln_3rwqBEHvkWWsXlCS189_jSLYilT53EWGGivsOB-CcQKUHQZWrmLbv/s320/Thailand+005.jpg" border="0" /></a>nt off we started off on the bike. About 7 miles of mud, rice fields, wooden bridges, and narrow tracks led us to the 1st section of running. It was a flat 4 mile run through tall grass, rice fields, and mud puddles. After that, we got back on the bike for another 5 miles that led us to a river where our kayaks waited for us. 1.5 mile row down stream really helped us pick up some time and pass some other competitors. A 1.5 mile run back to our bikes, we headed out for a long 12 mile ride through more rice fields, mud and various villages of Thai people and tons of little kids cheering us on! Feeling really tired we approached t<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7UR1T6J1SP4OzZXfjo66dTEKGJEj7FdUrjdm7R0eAnIkZaoJHITeeLeuO4ju7-QqfSAFlVgRo1d-sluiavxnncYR5ukf3CX0rY3q3G6cJySv0R5EgJohS_iA59o6J7PLZ4rDw/s1600-h/Thailand+012.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5272561438999491682" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7UR1T6J1SP4OzZXfjo66dTEKGJEj7FdUrjdm7R0eAnIkZaoJHITeeLeuO4ju7-QqfSAFlVgRo1d-sluiavxnncYR5ukf3CX0rY3q3G6cJySv0R5EgJohS_iA59o6J7PLZ4rDw/s320/Thailand+012.jpg" border="0" /></a>he ropes courses that had us crawling up over a cargo net, then climbing a tree to across a stagnate stream of water using a single r<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm3jmVR1mCzt3haekA5HkrMFy71oEsdxQ7T__XFKXfm2BJ-oNqrO4hyphenhyphen4EeafquIVQmt4XIKATfpemFa9_MeXE0_3CC08hpok9QgfcWBg7XifqUJtR113rLK5DWijkHpHrNeHb2/s1600-h/Thailand+013.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5272561598065608434" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm3jmVR1mCzt3haekA5HkrMFy71oEsdxQ7T__XFKXfm2BJ-oNqrO4hyphenhyphen4EeafquIVQmt4XIKATfpemFa9_MeXE0_3CC08hpok9QgfcWBg7XifqUJtR113rLK5DWijkHpHrNeHb2/s320/Thailand+013.jpg" border="0" /></a>ope over our heads and another for our feet. We had to go hand-over-hand, foot-over-foot to the other side. Or, we could have just swam across, but we could see by the looks of water, we wouldn't like that. Running about a half mile to the lake, we were trying to recover from rope burns and sheer tiredness. We arrived to a lake where we were handed an inner tube and were instructed to swim (fully clothed) across the lake, about .25 miles. Weighed down by clothes and shoes and pushing the tube across, we got irritated and couldn't imagine this race going much longer. Exited the water we saw that we had to finish the race with a 1 mile run, with the inner tube. The finish line looked great while running up the hill, rolling the tube. Having NO clue what our time was, we were extremely impressed when we crossed the finish line in 4 hours and 20 mins. In the top 20 and 4th in our division! We were stoked and ready for the next one!<br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtqaZcL3ym_HE9ifYe7SnLmtZwOvwAYy5qdUrLxl9OswNbmu-nDyJM8JL3GPERa0DKBi_cfW2BRxxHZx5ZmTwAdL0dZQOpNol5EZS4-sloGd0DEg7OrDhNQOx4UsO7xDG_fMrU/s1600-h/Thailand+021.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5272570223320328994" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtqaZcL3ym_HE9ifYe7SnLmtZwOvwAYy5qdUrLxl9OswNbmu-nDyJM8JL3GPERa0DKBi_cfW2BRxxHZx5ZmTwAdL0dZQOpNol5EZS4-sloGd0DEg7OrDhNQOx4UsO7xDG_fMrU/s320/Thailand+021.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX97K4GFmqCsl5nZTh2_dNh_WEB0ivPB_R3v0oBDoCOF4bv2_xcG96QVTnhOCTyfv1Us3G1LoRfdflncFPOkqfCw1JxvyxmdvPeRDMZ9XmnhlTrWhXLSJmXAnC86UeTRfqs4bS/s1600-h/Thailand+019.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5272561708029320274" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX97K4GFmqCsl5nZTh2_dNh_WEB0ivPB_R3v0oBDoCOF4bv2_xcG96QVTnhOCTyfv1Us3G1LoRfdflncFPOkqfCw1JxvyxmdvPeRDMZ9XmnhlTrWhXLSJmXAnC86UeTRfqs4bS/s320/Thailand+019.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><div> </div></div></div></div></div></div>Daniel and Bekah Moorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07316244218961516915noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19406445.post-65617441637851003212008-11-12T23:46:00.000-08:002008-11-13T00:08:49.682-08:00Loi Krathong<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjifRISQZJgcTbKtAbjarXPAZMfbIAVkkPi8mD_MZu4EyWwSuNzb30KXF3b0_t5qkfGP-kjorexdvjtax_qPgB-6Q128BOkEKmvMzedg3sGVUjQbpXk64x6sIJAhg2mTc5tG5hn/s1600-h/Loi+Kathlong+074.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5268046928064631442" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjifRISQZJgcTbKtAbjarXPAZMfbIAVkkPi8mD_MZu4EyWwSuNzb30KXF3b0_t5qkfGP-kjorexdvjtax_qPgB-6Q128BOkEKmvMzedg3sGVUjQbpXk64x6sIJAhg2mTc5tG5hn/s320/Loi+Kathlong+074.jpg" border="0" /></a>Sure, we might not get Thanksgiving or Veterans Day to celebrate here in Thailand, but we do get to celebrate Loi Krathong! Don't worry, I can't pronounce it either!<br />“Loi Krathong” is traditionally performed on the full moon night of the twelfth lunar month, which usually falls on some day in November. The floating of a ‘Krathong' – a banana–leaf cup – is intended to float away ill fortune as well as to express apologies to Khongkha or Ganga, the River Goddess. Some believe that the ritual is meant to worship the Buddha's footprint on the bank of the Narmada River, while others say that it is to pay respect to Phra Uppakhut, one of the Lord Buddha's great disciples. The Loi Krathong Festival is celebrated nationwide in Thailand, especially where there are rivers, canals or sources of water, with different unique characteristics. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqR-y7_Aj0IsbHp5enMsPPjyLwSt8GYWa5LQTkowcDjGZh4P4xwu6dSmyV1JBI1s9sIjSdAR3-KEUyMHHmITZQB0MYOxPoLykxUl_ZZXZHbmDLcYYfTlEtADR-XTAjT9q1D24p/s1600-h/Loi+Kathlong+065.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5268050006702279938" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqR-y7_Aj0IsbHp5enMsPPjyLwSt8GYWa5LQTkowcDjGZh4P4xwu6dSmyV1JBI1s9sIjSdAR3-KEUyMHHmITZQB0MYOxPoLykxUl_ZZXZHbmDLcYYfTlEtADR-XTAjT9q1D24p/s320/Loi+Kathlong+065.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />In other words... Daniel, myself and some teacher friends got our Krathongs and headed to the park along with thousands of other Thai people. It was a beautiful night and you could feel the excitement from everyone around you. Daniel and I didn't get to make our own Krathong (like most people do) but a nice Thai lady got 30 Baht ($0.98 USD) for the one we bought of the street. Some might think the beach or mountains. My husband thinks it’s Thailand….so that’s why we’re here. This weekend we didn’t go to the beach, the mountains or Disneyland, but we did go to Dream World, where all your dreams come true, right here in Thailand. This amusement park is the Disneyland of Thailand. Can’t say all my dreams came true, but we had some fun. 11 teachers from EIS loaded up in a rented van and drove an hour through Bangkok’s crowed streets and arrived to dressed up cartoon characters greeting us, a catchy It’s a Small World After All-ish song being repeated over and over, Tha<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuJDKiDHrA1774j9YhIedqN9Su0YlkO8gZfpi1SWKJ9-e8o4uBKJViYFVWEjhdB4QrV3rVg8igg98utVmSH29kBPuGyW43X1dwvSpjUJJ8r9xX5iG5vGFgGgCcQO_G0jvn11rb/s1600-h/Dream+World+039.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266661239776383778" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuJDKiDHrA1774j9YhIedqN9Su0YlkO8gZfpi1SWKJ9-e8o4uBKJViYFVWEjhdB4QrV3rVg8igg98utVmSH29kBPuGyW43X1dwvSpjUJJ8r9xX5iG5vGFgGgCcQO_G0jvn11rb/s320/Dream+World+039.jpg" border="0" /></a>i workers dressed in bright colors selling pad-Thai and cotton candy at the booth. We grabbed the park’s map, and headed out.<br />First, we visited the miniature replicas of the 7 Wonders of the World (I will only have 3 more to see once I’m home from Thailand), then hit up some roller coasters, some water rides, the giant house and then to Snow Land. Snow in Thailand? Yeah, your sweat instantly changes to icicles once you step inside. You walk in, they take your shoes and exchange them from rubber boots and hand you a big down jacket. Trying not to think about all the other feet and bodies in these boots and jackets, we put them on and opened the door to -3.5*C (26*F). The room was filed with snow covered trees, Christmas décor and a man-made hill for sledding. It was quiet the experience running around in rubber boots, a skirt, and down jacket. For the first time, I was FREZZING in Thailand!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD6E0siKXV96elJYZSq4UGRC55P3h2Mx3GFPelflz7ocQ4RA9OJOQxK5dxqDpiveuyDTG5t5GHHYA1qbRwFwZ15OqM_QnRJQf2zNQBPAuh7Nv-ft8WPD-r01T3x1iklP4QhZLF/s1600-h/Dream+World+036.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266660486487803762" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD6E0siKXV96elJYZSq4UGRC55P3h2Mx3GFPelflz7ocQ4RA9OJOQxK5dxqDpiveuyDTG5t5GHHYA1qbRwFwZ15OqM_QnRJQf2zNQBPAuh7Nv-ft8WPD-r01T3x1iklP4QhZLF/s320/Dream+World+036.jpg" border="0" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQk5WJUDP-aWFLh2TQ6xPrNQd9cRJu-6Op-QGiOo3dc-HAlLhf6tEVs3m75buLJuAELxZKbwucpSj6S1ni8_AKzmGLiFw8UY7EbHNkf9xSu9OGcJnlpN76EAcKmIDlgXYb0VdA/s1600-h/Dream+World+033.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266661756023944098" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQk5WJUDP-aWFLh2TQ6xPrNQd9cRJu-6Op-QGiOo3dc-HAlLhf6tEVs3m75buLJuAELxZKbwucpSj6S1ni8_AKzmGLiFw8UY7EbHNkf9xSu9OGcJnlpN76EAcKmIDlgXYb0VdA/s320/Dream+World+033.jpg" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia0LrV1IcY0ZYBtPRqh_muJdGT78oZ0OcTWgCsWBohBZhrg_ZqjmEvQ53GSGN_hm7KIuUMEmjgvhyLwtjAykCPMnNE4H5bB6Vtxq1ETCYMhqJ8DZBeHaKeNEzpiLpJXqFUEOrr/s1600-h/Dream+World+037.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266661940960734498" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia0LrV1IcY0ZYBtPRqh_muJdGT78oZ0OcTWgCsWBohBZhrg_ZqjmEvQ53GSGN_hm7KIuUMEmjgvhyLwtjAykCPMnNE4H5bB6Vtxq1ETCYMhqJ8DZBeHaKeNEzpiLpJXqFUEOrr/s320/Dream+World+037.jpg" border="0" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9B30aCRn2wWsRnoa_IEx_gbUKv5zwqbxS0f57HyVRl-Z06cu26zFLYzW1l8c9vUVPCIneZJyleTI63mkGoz9sBUBA35Pl5ikuKD8KJMCQ8a8vEMz8Phepz4c1Cw7-rAb02ICf/s1600-h/Dream+World+042.jpg"></a><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266664324774981234" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHGQtXoIrxUaKBOgVFqRWdkuh-yiLMV86U6f5bvDFGYvxNlB45G6m_PQawwxffWtHa4MYqrf1hT9bC-5iHRoxiUrfucKAAMTEUCL_zNRuOvFR01utDjihxEmrfp6OZ1mXUZ2BL/s320/Dream+World+051.jpg" border="0" /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGFQGlpjlEdS7oKjfmRG7N9oadE4NgtADFNT0MN5-4xDyt56S99uc59hTib52hIUqBoWj9TTf4Aheyva15du2McCE8przF3gwlVCHwzOcqESNlCdKFF5iUqYrlHiWCmodFDukA/s1600-h/Dream+World+028.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266661440920838962" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGFQGlpjlEdS7oKjfmRG7N9oadE4NgtADFNT0MN5-4xDyt56S99uc59hTib52hIUqBoWj9TTf4Aheyva15du2McCE8przF3gwlVCHwzOcqESNlCdKFF5iUqYrlHiWCmodFDukA/s320/Dream+World+028.jpg" border="0" /></a></div>Daniel and Bekah Moorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07316244218961516915noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19406445.post-7562771276241494372008-11-07T18:33:00.000-08:002008-11-07T18:43:15.611-08:00Transportation<br />Living in the 21st largest city in the world and not owning a car requires you to use public transportation or your feet….a lot! The vase amount of people on the road along with their consumption of alcohol, narcotics, or even the fact that there is other people on the road makes it a little scary to ride in a taxi or bus. Along with the fact that taxis will rip you off, not take you where you want to go, have extremely odd odors or they’re very difficult to catch during certain times of the day. Another option is the above or underground trains. These are great, affordable, and reliable! But, like everything, there is a problem…they don’t go everywhere you want to go! Option 3, traveling by foot! It’s a good safe choice, but not the most efficient. Dodging pedestrians, drips of water from the roof tops, lose pieces of cement, the random dog asleep in the middle of the sidewalk, and motorcycles that don’t want to use the road due to lots of traffic. Not to mention the distance of your destination and the time factor. These are all things to consider while traveling in Bangkok! <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3wCw7i9FfHnE0qd3pBHeL4pHBffijcMP2GrDunshm3pG63wgbm3LiMx21CrhXmZVN1hYPMYoq6kT2FShqgFThyphenhyphen9UsYJOfB1dNj8UjiT7f29p_sQo-qFsiENFfOyLXMnnrK-ht/s1600-h/foldable.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266111362440223714" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 239px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3wCw7i9FfHnE0qd3pBHeL4pHBffijcMP2GrDunshm3pG63wgbm3LiMx21CrhXmZVN1hYPMYoq6kT2FShqgFThyphenhyphen9UsYJOfB1dNj8UjiT7f29p_sQo-qFsiENFfOyLXMnnrK-ht/s320/foldable.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />There’s got to be a better way….BIKES! We invested in some used foldable bikes to take care of our transportation woes. Why foldable? 1.) Those great above or underground trains we love to take will only allow you bring on a bike if it’s folded up. 2.) When your plans change and you’re stuck far from home and it’s dark or rainy, you have to take an undesirable taxi and we all know they don’t have bike racks on them. 3.) Storage! Why used? 1.) We’re teachers….need not to explain. <br />Experiences on a foldable: Bangkok isn’t the cleanest city and their streets aren’t the smoothest. Anywhere we ride; due to traffic and animals (mostly elephants and dogs) we have to deal with puddles of water and potholes. Most of the time, we have to go right through them. Daniel’s bike has a problem of folding whenever it wants to, not when we want it to. Therefore, on several occasions, Daniel has met death while riding along and the bike starts to fold up. A quick stop and readjustment and he crosses his fingers that it won’t happened again…th<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji1Sp6fiWLe3a4cy7qsModynCc2iw0W52xn74fHqap7DojnScwb1sUlgTPsyq2atkyRqUiKszi4PD3YKaDJOblcBUTGHHLyaahmk0dq1hpB1oblvf8yHz_0w6vPJC6hl-jyYZp/s1600-h/foldable2.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266111491192076818" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 239px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji1Sp6fiWLe3a4cy7qsModynCc2iw0W52xn74fHqap7DojnScwb1sUlgTPsyq2atkyRqUiKszi4PD3YKaDJOblcBUTGHHLyaahmk0dq1hpB1oblvf8yHz_0w6vPJC6hl-jyYZp/s320/foldable2.jpg" border="0" /></a>at day. Bekah deals with other issues. Since her bike is solid she has more problems with her attire on the bike. Mostly you will find her riding in a skirt and flip flops. Leg positioning and toe curling is essential! There have been high gusts of wind leaving the eyes of Thai men glazed. Then, there are the times when the back of the flip flop gets stuck in the spokes and she’s found her shoe in the middle of an intersection. That’s when she stands along the side of the road waiting to play chicken while multiple cars run over her shoe.<br />Some great times have been spent on these things and we have more to look forward to. You’ll mostly find us riding to the gym or the market, sometimes in bright sun, dusk or often in a rain storm. There will be more adventures on these bikes, please pray for our safety.Daniel and Bekah Moorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07316244218961516915noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19406445.post-40276369718985449172008-10-15T07:09:00.000-07:002008-10-15T08:07:37.402-07:00Chiang Mai<div><div><div><div><div><br /><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257393482789206674" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYWywLa-JAx-h57eLQJWDoisDx_ISX7GUJwyOs-nB8m6Nfvw67OEHXcJa4y9DLgN8FGSaPnEPKsdmEz34jsbchO0gafJihkIJtbHMOR1bofoAW6vGYzu38_VnTs5KZMHDhCXvm/s320/Chiang+Mai+024.jpg" border="0" />When given a three-day weekend, we jump at the chance to GO! On Thursday we hopped on the 7:30 p.m. over night/ sleeper train out of Bangkok and headed north for 12 hours. The next morning, after sleeping with a "car load" of non-English speakers, we arrived in Chiang Mai. Looking out our window, we saw green hills, random Thai men standing on the train tracks, and lots of stray dogs. Curiously, we wondered what this weekend would be like. The second we stepped off the train, we were instantly bombarded with tour guides shoving their fliers in our faces, drivers motioning us to get in their Tuk Tuk's, millions of <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj37sstGlKDA-Q82HaQWeTGMiSbtauXYPPgFzP5vjQTY0okTuLAqJbL4gVoFBxo6EUJ7BKuNy-E6ZOIbOG15hR3-O-2P-tMhp5RJmK3EzjtK6nlgoXFeuiXKs1_22NSBsBZCsRK/s1600-h/Chiang+Mai+028.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257394139606971730" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj37sstGlKDA-Q82HaQWeTGMiSbtauXYPPgFzP5vjQTY0okTuLAqJbL4gVoFBxo6EUJ7BKuNy-E6ZOIbOG15hR3-O-2P-tMhp5RJmK3EzjtK6nlgoXFeuiXKs1_22NSBsBZCsRK/s320/Chiang+Mai+028.jpg" border="0" /></a>signs for hotels and guest-houses that offered AC, and a mile long list of random treks and tours you could choose from. Of course, we didn’t have anything planned, we just wanted to get up there and see our options. Well, we learned NOT to take the first hotel offer you get just because it’s cheap! Cheap in Thailand has a VERY wide spectrum. Needless to say, we weren’t impressed with our spontaneous choice. (hence we have no pictures of it) Although, we did instantly sign up for a "Flight of the Gibbon" zip-line tour through the jungle treetops. It was a swingin' time! Strapped into these unattractive harnesses, we were given instructions of what to do while being swung hundreds of feet above ground. Granted, our guide had terrible dialect and we only were able to catch half of what to do. SCARY but an awesome experience aside from the attack of the deadly mosquitoes!! As the Thais say, white people<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkC5GbHLL7Nuxo2LaA5flGW5Zyl28yEretnMyVvw7qye1o59gT6oAvREYtfb8GOftyBzYOFqMnXBYzSXmC2MMBthz-5gV5bnowoMF6MTA5VSp20pdRhk5sEYXlP4XJleWxoiUf/s1600-h/Chiang+Mai+165.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257395364536555618" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkC5GbHLL7Nuxo2LaA5flGW5Zyl28yEretnMyVvw7qye1o59gT6oAvREYtfb8GOftyBzYOFqMnXBYzSXmC2MMBthz-5gV5bnowoMF6MTA5VSp20pdRhk5sEYXlP4XJleWxoiUf/s320/Chiang+Mai+165.jpg" border="0" /></a> eat too much sugar so the mosquitoes like us, if we ate spicy food all the time, like they do, mosquitoes wouldn’t bit us. We swung from 11 trees, crossed 3 wooden sky bridges, and rappelled down 2 trees. An adrenalin rush for sure! The next day, we headed back up into the mountains and visited some of the hill tribe villages. We got to see how the Longneck-Karen Tribes live, along with the stretched out ear tribe. It simply amazed us how these people live. Spending time there was an eye opener and really made us evaluate and appreciate all we have. I have to say though; these people liv<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgicvxrwWhFRz6hjggN_VccgKZ-UJCYlibmGOrZkEyGaLOzrBDaVmHGBQQh8-FW3UGGJnKCbymWX_TLZGaaS0-ZPHt9nUyh4qJ04CZduHMrE_C9GuA4Gt23-Ragl-UI2K-ZpVzb/s1600-h/Chiang+Mai+088.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257394517580571458" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgicvxrwWhFRz6hjggN_VccgKZ-UJCYlibmGOrZkEyGaLOzrBDaVmHGBQQh8-FW3UGGJnKCbymWX_TLZGaaS0-ZPHt9nUyh4qJ04CZduHMrE_C9GuA4Gt23-Ragl-UI2K-ZpVzb/s320/Chiang+Mai+088.jpg" border="0" /></a>e on some beautiful country side! We saw amazing views of rice fields and mountains while riding on an elephant then got to see these amazing animals show us their talents by painting us pictures, showing us how they bathe and how their feces can make paper. The river was beautiful even if it was brown (that’s why we don’t drink it) At night we enjoyed the town by walking up and down the streets, some good restaurants, the Night Market, and time out of the city, Bangkok. We definately enjoyed our short visit north, and hope to return again….with hotel reservations and mosquito repellant!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI4kkToNGW7hK-k46AqmO8p6voZR_-tuGO8E94nQapMVMfVo0m7gu3TagOuPv5MKRmxLr_fciYTn4cXZN4fv0oC6calAqbUqd9ikMxQ7uTg3B7t2XV-9SxFnU5juSJmj5RPZgJ/s1600-h/Chiang+Mai+157.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257394908608517826" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI4kkToNGW7hK-k46AqmO8p6voZR_-tuGO8E94nQapMVMfVo0m7gu3TagOuPv5MKRmxLr_fciYTn4cXZN4fv0oC6calAqbUqd9ikMxQ7uTg3B7t2XV-9SxFnU5juSJmj5RPZgJ/s320/Chiang+Mai+157.jpg" border="0" /></a></div></div></div></div></div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257395758422030450" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8bj_vrhJFRio2VaZ3mGRpUcn4cWTqD4ivfEijoJATspNryMEDlioR2TNDsN7bWfpf4H18IUf56Uk1pXmCAtbNzSYTaRjDxepmur4-hZTH019s-RVr39VKvz1Avs3ZtGRE6C3J/s320/Chiang+Mai+192.jpg" border="0" />Daniel and Bekah Moorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07316244218961516915noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19406445.post-61015138463006741242008-10-08T19:33:00.000-07:002008-10-09T01:21:04.391-07:00Teacher's Retreat -Pattaya, Thailand<div align="center">Our School took 200+ teachers, staff, and their families to a resort in Pattaya, Southeast of Bangkok. Highlights of our ride was when our elephant would blow a nasty solution out of it's trunk, right up Daniel's leg. We wandered through the jungle and up the River Kwai a ways.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKGenwbLvZIxOKJH1T4g6CNBE-rD7pbsRxiXRrn3j-DozYRiawTOAO3o15M_uhqiftlAiCeFIxH5bRCB5lJ_LmTNn3qzsVgbDip-H-u08nHk3S9y97QlmfQxATPB7TJXgXkBir/s1600-h/Kanchanaburi+014.jpg"></a><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247745166967842290" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7gOfE2fa_RHSeZGwpnTZFv6GzaLHB-56VE3u7VtyTkt6wNSTSCsSkcMX-sePqNwlW-M3bWyt6VBdq1H_9e0EB5qFIlPK8RHAZT6P2VnV3WcHaS1ZKHL0wiYYBpp0QI8EpJEqf/s320/Kanchanaburi+043.jpg" border="0" />Kanchanaburi is about 3 hours west of Bangkok, almost to the boarder of Burma. Along the road we would see monkeys just hanging out, relaxing. This was amusing!<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247745775493214514" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuxrUyD8sKVhn5yG-ovkRQ1jQSNeVn_DJz9Xh3cVRYoQpX90bv97DhjX8WdRZWzcX-pDcA4Ya2DNWEBjKuUBPeROtFJ2O-LDePEhmaQ1beFBRoWP_Bz_3MciOZtvTmUFMk_yH4/s320/Kanchanaburi+063.jpg" border="0" />Also along the side of the road, we enjoyed some tasty snacks. Sweet dried bananas and salty potatoes. Two other teachers at EIS joined us for the weekend; Annet and Terra.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247747492062453570" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDgWB7CdI7VZYPGmI-tZ6ufPclnw78JtDvgjXIKdwO7e1BwDcEXZUoz5E9xNCvE51aEoRprfk5Vwoxv5qbv4eIXhZU8Hd9RncguAvz6Umna4z-T0b0FhH8fLcFypy2oi2BkPSZ/s320/Kanchanaburi+081.jpg" border="0" />My dream of completing a marathon was fullfilled (almost) when I completed the River Kwai Half Marathon! Over 1000 runners; 15 of them being from the USA, 20+ Europeans, 2 Kenyans (becuase it's not a true marathon without them), and the remaining...Asians, ran 13.1 miles through the jungle, up and down some step hills, in the rain, breathing in some major humidity! I had some great cheerleaders with me and enjoyed every mintue.<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247749629053634578" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8gpASqzLelfojeloblF5j9AUcPDrGIu1I3bj-aw0FIoMvzhKrat2WnQTQgvELgHfypJgcPzgPsDnCqZXh0KxpLxSJF3OJ5NJ0YFEET_x7q2wTtwsmVY0sBqcah_PkzukO5LZc/s320/Kanchanaburi+047.jpg" border="0" />We visited many waterfalls throughout the weekend. Many of them are along the side of the road, whereas some are a major hike to get to the top tier. Each one had people swimming and enjoying the refreshing water until schools of fish would bit them. They were beautiful! <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247752356564193810" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU1hyphenhyphenj3GsAU2OAr0BPT0JwIcDbWpKzK96f6HAniCGG9B7KMPu5WSMDq3HySVemNMENU0sSj1KTp8-TH8OhyphenhyphentZAQATupZZRaWCGWbzxnO11IO0To1Z-KM3tat7aGLaE6ZZKmYn6/s320/Kanchanaburi+182.jpg" border="0" /></div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="center">Our weekend ended with an invigerated visit to the Tiger Temple. It was amazing being so close to these exotic animals. A monk would lead us to a few different tigers and we were allowed to kneel down next to them. We got the privilege of walking with the tigers back to their cages. </div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247753651948018274" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKX-LkkKXF8gcBSSFfkacxYWBWNr0VfhYsK6t4QrliDEE3wjCfM4rgK0kLUEM2WE1Fv8pkHe0tqqxcRQcfhQvZsqY_aYRJ0bkAb06UB-CpSjVKG5nhhwysbdTbD3HddoyAAE13/s320/Kanchanaburi+072.jpg" border="0" /> <p align="center">We throughly enjoyed getting out of the city and seeing another beautiful part of Thailand. </p>Daniel and Bekah Moorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07316244218961516915noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19406445.post-43033378231210263122008-08-31T01:21:00.000-07:002008-08-31T06:32:57.178-07:00Thai Cooking SchoolWe took a Thai Cooking class on Sunday. For four hours we made 10 vegetarian Thai dishes. Not promising an authentic Thai banquet when we return, but learned a lot and will practice for the next 9 months.
